The Air France Foundation currently supports more than 90 projects including 30 in Africa, 17 in Asia, 9 in Latin America, 8 in the Caribbean and Indian Ocean, 3 in Eastern Europe and a unilateral-scale project covering several countries. In France, 24 projects are also funded, notably in Toulouse which has been elected priority city in 2010.
Created in 1992, the Foundation is this year sponsoring 61 programmes to support children in difficulty and 30 programs providing support to ill or disabled children.
In compiling its annual programme, the Air France Foundation spent 6 months making a careful selection from 1,500 projects and contacted some 200 associations and NGOs. Providing support and assistance to street children is one of the Foundation's priorities, ensuring that these associations are totally reliable and the work they do is serious and long-term.
Haïti, the Air France Foundation's current priority
With the funds raised through donations from Air France employees, the Air France Foundation has been supporting a number of projects in this country devastated by the earthquake on 12 January.
The association Première Urgence will notably be reconstructing the national Carius-Lhérisson school located south of Port-au-Prince, in line with anti-earthquake international standards. The 2,298 children aged 5 to 16 and the 55 teachers of this school will benefit from over 17 fully-furnished classrooms. They will also have access to water and an infirmary as well as a renovated kitchen.
Furthermore, this year, the Foundation has proposed 17 volunteer work initiatives within the framework of the Friends of the Foundation network, with close to 1,870 member employees.
More and more travellers think that researching and planning a European city break is half the fun and they're not interested in pre-arranged trips or escorted tours. Self-guided tours offer a lot of advantages but require some guidance and good resources.
With the recent wild fires, disrupting flights and increasing air pollution, environmental quality is a growing factor in attracting tourists.
