BBC Tours to open Broadcasting House to the public
Thursday 1, January 1970
BBC Tours are now taking bookings for April 2013 for those who wish to visit the BBC’s state of the art media facility, Broadcasting House. The building is the iconic new home for the BBC’s network and global services in Television, Radio, News and Online.
The services were relocated to the new facility at the end of 2012 from Television Centre in Shepherds Bush and Bush House in the West End.
Visitors will be accompanied on tours by entertaining and informative guides who will explain the unique purpose built features of the building and give background on the BBC‘s rich history as a world famous broadcaster.
“Visitors to Broadcasting House will not only learn about the history of the BBC but will also get a sense of what it’s like working at the heart of the nation’s best loved broadcaster,” says Kelly Barnes, Operations Manager, BBC Tours. “As well as an inside glimpse at a stunning and eye catching development the tour is interactive giving visitors the opportunity to see if they have the skills of Huw Edwards as they are offered the opportunity to read the news and even produce their own radio drama.”
Broadcasting House is a working building so tours will be tailored accordingly but amongst other attractions visitors can expect to enjoy a camera’s eye view via the big screen of some of the studios which broadcast the nation’s favourite news programmes and the most popular radio stations. Tours include a look at the new state-of-the-art purpose built newsroom and, via a new interactive news set, visitors can have a go at reading the news and weather themselves.
Guides will also explain how BBC Radio Drama is made and visitors will try their hand at producing their very own radio play complete with music and sound effects. On some but not all tours, visitors can catch a peek into the newly restored Radio Theatre (production schedules permitting) where Radio 2 concerts and popular radio comedy shows such as BBC Radio 4’s ‘Just a Minute’, ‘The News Quiz’ and ‘The Now Show’ have recently been recorded.
BBC Tours will be attending the Excursions™ 2013 exhibition at Alexandra Palace on Saturday 26th January and can be found at stand L18.

More and more travellers think that researching and planning a European city break is half the fun and they're not interested in pre-arranged trips or escorted tours. Self-guided tours offer a lot of advantages but require some guidance and good resources.
With the recent wild fires, disrupting flights and increasing air pollution, environmental quality is a growing factor in attracting tourists.
