Once again Best Western has enlarged its portfolio: In 2009 there were 113 hotel additions in Europe, in total 275 hotels joined the World’s Largest Hotel Chain®. Best Western Hotels Germany had 15 new hotel additions and realized the second largest development of European Best Western hotels.
Even in times of the global economic crisis, the World’s Largest Hotel Chain® realized continuous and solid growth: In 2009, 275 independently owned and operated hotels joined Best Western, including 113 in Europe, which equates to nearly half of new Best Western hotels worldwide. By end of 2009 there were 4,048 Best Western hotels worldwide in over 80 countries.
Best Western Hotels Germany expanded in 2009 with 15 new hotels, by year end there were 184 hotels in total. New destinations include Timmendorfer Strand at the Baltic Sea and the idyllic Bavarian Forest. In Berlin, the Best Western Grand City Hotel Berlin Mitte joined the brand, making it the fifteenth in Germany’s capital. In 2010, ten additional hotels have already been signed, such as the Best Western Premier Grand Hotel Russischer Hof in the historic city of Weimar and Germany’s most northern hotel – the Best Western Hotel des Nordens. By end of 2010, the number of hotels in Germany and Luxembourg is expected to be 200.
Best Western France realized the largest development in Europe: 28 new hotels enlarged the French portfolio up to 293 properties. Highlights are the Best Western Premier Opéra Diamonds in Paris and the Best Western Hôtel Univers in Cannes.

In the United States and Canada, 112 properties joined the brand. New flagship properties in the US include the Best Western Clearwater Grand Hotel & Suites in Clearwater, Fla., the Best Western Atrea Hotel & Suites in San Antonio, Texas, the Best Western Sundial Resort in Scottsdale, Ariz., and the Best Western Jasper Inn in Jasper, Alberta, Canada.
In South America the Best Western Paradiso Del Sol in Cabo Frio joined in Brazil.
In Asia, 28 hotels joined the brand:
The total number of Best Western hotels in Asia is now 87.
Africa welcomed two hotels, including the brand’s first in Egypt: The Best Western Solitaire Resort in Marsa Alam at the Red Sea; and the Best Western Tikida Garden in Marrakech, Morocco.
“Down Under” in Australia and New Zealand, 19 hotels joined the brand in 2009, bringing the total in that region to 192. Development highlights include the Best Western Seachange Coolum Beach at the Sunshine Coast in Queensland targeting leisure travelers, and the Best Western Johnsonville Motor Lodge in Wellington.
