Every winter, the heart of Brussels beats to the rhythm of Plaisirs d'Hiver (Winter Wonder), featuring a magical decor, a superb Christmas market, an illuminated Big Wheel, Merry-go-Rounds, street activities and of course the famous ice skating rink. The annual of Winter Wonders festival is one of the major attractions in the centre of Brussels. And who's complaining? People will be taking leisurely strolls along the festive route between Place Saint-Jean and Marché au Poissons in a welcoming, sparkling and magical atmosphere typical of festivals at this time of year.
Eyes won't know where to turn in this magical, illuminated and sound-filled setting featuring a wide range of fun activities (including street theatre, music bands, puppets etc.). Keen to find out what's going on and what there is to taste, parents will be walking through the biggest Christmas market in Belgium with its 240 stalls set up around the Bourse, and the Marché aux Poissons, going through the Place Sainte Catherine, which will accommodate the guest of honour of "Plaisirs d'hiver".
There will be fun for the kids too, as they discover the pleasures of skating on the ice rink. Some unusual ice skating manoeuvres are sure to be on show! In 2003, English tour operators ranked the Brussels Christmas market the "most original" in Europe. Nor can you fault their choice when you see the magnificent and illuminated big wheel that dominates the festival. The lights also help direct revellers as they saunter around the festival route, taking in the traditional and cultural activities that will brighten up the town centre until the last day of the year.
