Delivery of 700th E-Jet
Wednesday 10, November 2010
British Airways and aircraft manufacturer Embraer join forces in Brazil for the delivery of the 700th E-Jet off the production line.
The Embraer 190 is the 11th aircraft in a brand new fleet for wholly owned British Airways regional subsidiary airline BA CityFlyer.
Just 13 months after taking delivery of the first Embraer in British Airways’ colours, Peter Simpson, BA CityFlyer managing director, will be handed the keys to the 700th E-Jet in a handover ceremony at Embraer’s São José dos Campos, Brazil headquarters, today.
British Airways recently announced that it is to take up options for two further Embraer 190s which will be delivered next year. With the new aircraft today the airline currently has five Embraer 170 jets and six Embraer 190s.
Paulo Cesar de Souza e Silva, Embraer Executive Vice President, Airline Market, Embraer President and CEO said: “The delivery of the 700th E-Jet is a great achievement for Embraer and we are especially proud that such an internationally renowned, world-class airline is the recipient. British Airways is one of the company’s standard bearers, and it gives us enormous satisfaction to see the full benefits of the E-Jet product being put to good use at London City and across BA CityFlyer’s growing network.”
Peter Simpson said: “I am absolutely delighted to receive the 700th E-Jet. There have been many benefits to replacing our regional jet fleet with brand new Embraers, but most important for us has been the response from our passengers.
“We have had unprecedented levels of positive customer feedback about the extra space, enhanced levels of comfort and of course the two-by-two seating giving everyone either a window or aisle seat.”
The Embraers will operate on 14 British Airways domestic and European routes from London City Airport. The airline has launched new services this year to Copenhagen, Palma and Ibiza and begins services to Chambery in France in December and to Stockholm in January.
