Normans and Crusaders Event to be held over Easter Weekend
Arundel Castle is set to play host to a thrilling 12th Century Normans and Crusaders spectacular over the Easter bank holiday weekend, 19 – 21 April 2014.
Visitors will be transported back to 1190, where King Richard the Lionheart has just embarked on the Third Crusade and called upon his subjects to set forth and join him. Arundel Castle plays the role of a key mustering station for local men, supplies and equipment, and will be bustling with loyal subjects keen to play their part in the Crusade.
Set within a large historical tented encampment in the grounds of Arundel Castle, this event explores the ways in which Norman Knights and Crusaders changed the course of the Castle’s colourful history. With the utmost accuracy, the members of Raven Tor Living History Group will recreate the sounds, smells, costumes, combat tactics and crafts of the 12th Century.
Visitors on the day will be able to:
Bask in the tales told by the Distant Trumpets Story Teller
Participate in falconry and archery demonstrations
Revel in 12th Century combat tactic displays• Enjoy recreating the crafts of the period
With much to see and do for all the family, this promises to be an unmissable Easter extravaganza!
Bryan McDonald, Castle Manager commented: “Normans and Crusaders events are always popular with visitors to the Castle – we are delighted to be hosting this year’s event across the Easter weekend.
“The event is a true spectacle, from educational elements through to breathtaking combat displays and interactive craft sessions. It is always a delight to see our visitors engaging with the Castle’s history, and I know this event will be no exception!”
Arundel Castle will re-open for visitors on 01 April 2014. Further information on the Castle and its 2014 event calendar can be found at www.arundelcastle.org
More and more travellers think that researching and planning a European city break is half the fun and they're not interested in pre-arranged trips or escorted tours. Self-guided tours offer a lot of advantages but require some guidance and good resources.
With the recent wild fires, disrupting flights and increasing air pollution, environmental quality is a growing factor in attracting tourists.
