easyJet to open new direct service to Basel

From 1 November 2010, easyJet will be offering a non-stop service between Copenhagen and Basel, the cultural capital of Switzerland, tying two powerful business regions closer together.

Danish ski tourists and wine connoisseurs can look forward to 1 November when easyJet opens its new direct low-cost service to Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg.

“With our new service between Copenhagen and Basel, we give passengers a new non-stop connection that is currently not being offered by any other airline. And it is even a low-cost service, which passengers increasingly demand,” said Thomas Haagensen, Regional General Manager for easyJet in Northern Europe.

Ties two medical regions closer together

“easyJet’s new service proves that there is an attractive market in Copenhagen. The service, which has been in demand by business travellers in particular, will tie two medical regions closer together. Moreover, the service will strengthen Danish tourism, and we expect that many people from Switzerland will be interested in taking weekend breaks in Denmark,” said Ole Wieth Christensen, Route Development Manager at Copenhagen Airport about the new service to Basel.

Basel is located on the banks of the Rhine and has a very special atmosphere in that it has a Swiss, a French and a German section. The city deserves its reputation as the cultural capital of Switzerland due to its about 40 museums and the oldest university in Switzerland, founded in 1460. In addition, Basel is the centre of a number of major pharmaceutical and chemical companies.

easyJet will be operating four weekly frequencies to Basel: on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Plan your trips with the help of great resources

More and more travellers think that researching and planning a European city break is half the fun and they're not interested in pre-arranged trips or escorted tours. Self-guided tours offer a lot of advantages but require some guidance and good resources.
