Finnair has signed the United Nations Women's Empowerment Principles. The Principles gives guidance on the empowerment of women in the workplace, marketplace and community.
"We at Finnair make every effort to support gender equality in our own operations as well as participating in international principles. By signing the Statement, Finnair demonstrates leadership on gender equality and women’s empowerment and we also encourage fellow business leaders to do the same," says Mika Vehviläinen, President & CEO of Finnair.
The Women’s Empowerment Principles are the result of a collaboration between the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM, part of UN Women) and the United Nations Global Compact.
The Principles emphasize corporates to promote gender equality and women's empowerment. The Women's Empowerment Principles seek to point the way to best practice by elaborating the gender dimension of good corporate citizenship, the UN Global Compact, and business' role in sustainable development.
"Finnair is the first Finnish company which has signed these UN Principles. That shows that Finnair is really committed to develop its´ corporate culture," says Timo Vuori, Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce ICC Finland and Focal Point of the UN Global Compact Nordic Network.
