Greater efficiency in the dutch-german airspace

A new airspace structure in the area of the dutch-german border came into force on March 11, 2010. The project called AMRUFA will allow a growth in air traffic capacity of about fifteen percent in the complex and heavily frequented air space between Frankfurt and Amsterdam says Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS).
Affected is the east sector of Amsterdam, the Eurocontrol Ruhr sector controlled by the Four-States-Headquarter at Maastricht and some of the sectors around Frankfurt/Main controlled at Langen. Therefore the project is called AM-RU-FRA (Amsterdam-Ruhr-Frankfurt).
AMRUFRA is the first border crossing project which was created under the roof of the Functional Airspace Block Europe Central (FABEC). Within FABEC the six states Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg, The Netherlands and Switzerland as well as their air traffic control organisations and the Eurocontrol Four-States-Headquarter at Maastricht are now organised.
This new air traffic structure should help to disentangle the traffic flow and thus enhance the capacity in this heavily used air space.
