The Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn region is the most glaciated part of the Alps. There you can find Europe’s longest glacier and a whole range of classic glacial features including U-shaped valleys, glacial basins, horn peaks and moraines. The area provides an outstanding geological record of the immense uplift and compression which formed the Alps many millions of years ago. The diversity of flora and fauna is illustrated in the many forms of life found in the Alpine and sub-Alpine regions.
Lose all sense of direction as the little train travels deeper and deeper into the mountain. And when it stops, the north face of the Eiger, and later the sea of ice, become visible through holes in the rock. Finally you reach the top: gaze at row upon row of mountain peaks which lie before the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Alpine choughs dive deep down into the valleys of the Bernese Oberland, and on the other side, the mighty Aletsch glacier flows down into the Valais. The views and thin air at 3,571m will take your breath away. Visit the ice palace with its perpetual ice sculptures, take a trip on a dog sled or climb up to the Mönchsjoch Hut – it’s all part of the mountain dream. Then take the little train back down the mountain, past landscape superlatives like the Lauberhorn and the Staubbach Falls, and through dense forests and green meadows, to Interlaken.

The trip continues through the Eiger tunnel, to the Eigerwand and Eismeer stations, with a five minute halt at each station. You can enjoy some spectacular sightseeing through large observation windows, hewn from solid Alpine rock. And then the arrival on the Jungfraujoch, in the heart of a glorious glacier world on the very roof of Europe!
