Lufthansa and Germanwings pilots strike this week

Lufthansa and Germanwings pilots strike this week

Germanys Cockpit union authorized for Lufthansa pilots to strike. This strike starts today and ends Thursday night. The strike includes Lufthansa, Germanwings and Lufthansa Cargo.

Lufthansa and the Cockpit union had long and intensive negotiations. The union's demands for additional extensive safeguards to secure the jobs for pilots were unacceptable for Lufthansa. Lufthansa considered such demands an intervention in their management

Lufthansa stated: "A strike is bad for the company, its customers and employees to a large extent. The call to strike came despite numerous proposals to job security. In the interest of the company and its customers the union should return to the negotiating table, to work out a constructive solution.

Lufthansa will make every effort to the impact on customers and passengers are kept as low as possible."

The Union states: Already since the year 2006, the bargaining, which governs the working conditions of pilots is terminated. Since April 2009 is also the collective pay agreement, which lays down the salary structures, terminated and there is no more peace obligation. "But until now we have, for any open collective agreements in the companies concerned, Lufthansa, Lufthansa Cargo and German Wings will receive only one offer. Even the clear-cutting in the Lufthansa Group, Contact Air and Eurowings regional companies must end. Appeals Germann. By taking the decision, all of Lufthansa's 50-seat aircraft without replacement from the program, hundreds of pilots losing their jobs. This shows clearly that even the local house wage agreements with lower salary structures to make sure you do not provide protection against job cuts" Weiter so Germann.
