Lufthansa update – heavy snowfalls at Frankfurt airport – 21st December

Due to the current weather situation - especially at Frankfurt Airport - irregularities in air traffic are expected.
Frankfurt airport is gradually restarting operations. Longhaul flights from Frankfurt are planned to operate from 1:00 pm local time. Additionally irregularities on domestic and continental flights are to be expected. Passengers are urged to check their current flight status before coming to the airport and if possible use other means of transportation.
Information regarding the status of your flight
All Lufthansa passengers are urged to check the status of their flight before beginning their journey at Arrival & Departure.
Should your flight operate, please plan some extra time for check-in but note that the possibility to check-in baggage the night before departure is suspended at the moment. Should your flight be cancelled, please avoid coming to the airport.
Alternative means of transportation - German rail
Passengers on intraGerman flights are advised to utilise alternative means of travel. In view of the extraordinary situation, Lufthansa electronic flight tickets can be can be exchanged for Deutsche Bahn rail travel vouchers at the customer-operated check-in terminals.
Should there not be enough time to convert the ticket at a Lufthansa Quick-Check-in machine, Lufthansa recommends the purchase of a train ticket. The refund of the ticket can be obtained by presenting the train ticket and the flight ticket to the office that has issued the flight ticket after having completed the journey.
Passengers with inner-european destinations can also take the train wherever possible. It is mandatory, however, to transfer the flight coupon into a train ticket at a Deutsche Bahn service counter prior to boarding the train.
Re-booking in case of cancellations
Passengers affected by flight cancellations should contact the dedicated Lufthansa Call Center set up specially for the purpose. The free phone number to call from Germany is: 0800 850 60 70*. Callers from outside Germany should phone their local Lufthansa phone numbers. They kindly ask for your understanding that due to increased call volume you may experience longer than normal waiting times.
Special regulation for customers whose flights currently are not affected but would like to rebook
Customers who have booked a Lufthansa flight within Germany or Europe for the period between 19th December until 24th December 2010 and do not wish to travel as planned, are granted one rebooking free of charge (travel commencement until the 31st March 2011). The rebooking can also be made after the planned travel starting date.
Special regulation for customers whos flights currently are not affected but would like to cancel their bookings
Customers who have booked a Lufthansa flight within Germany or Europe for the period between 19the December until 22nd December 2010 and wish to travel anymore, can refund the ticket free of charge as the issuing acency. The refund can also be made after the planned travel starting date.
Passengers who travelled via means other than airplane due to cancellations or who did not commence their journey as planned and did not receive their luggage, can download a Baggage Tracing Form here. Please enter your personal data as well as the information how many pieces of luggage you have checked, and fax the document as indicated on the form to the responsible baggage tracing office. If you have already submitted a form at a Lufthansa counter, you do not need to send it again via fax. One form is sufficient.
Passengers with questions regarding lost baggage are kindly requested to use the Lufthansa baggage tracing online with their reference number.
Unfortunately no late night check-in is offered currently.
