Lyon has been the city of silk since the 16th century. The visitors of the Atelier de Soierie discover the typical skills and crafts of the silkcreen process, also known as screen printing” or “à la lyonnaise”. The actual printing of silk textile, by squares, is the last step of a long series of delicate processes, carried out by hand, to transform an white piece of silk into a coloured pattern.

Founded in 2001, The Designers’ Village is located in Lyon, France, on the slopes of the Croix Rousse, in Passage Thiaffait, a renovated, typical Lyonnaise walkway. The Designers’ Village forms links between professionals of the textile and fashion industry, and is facilitating the economic growth of young companies, acting as a springboard for them. The Village supports 10 resident companies that use a show room/workshop within the Passage Thiaffait for up to 23 months. Around 30 other companies of the Rhône Alpes region are also supported as ''members'' of the Village.

Since 1982, the Institut Lumière has had its home in the heart of Monplaisir, that historical area of Lyon where the Lumière brothers invented the Cinématographe and where, in 1895, they shot the first film in the history of the cinema : "Sortie d'Usine". Concurrently, a place of reminiscence and a film theater, the Institut is a genuine Living Museum of the Cinema. Films are screened, directors are invited, exhibitions are organized, young viewers are educated within these walls.

Theatre Le Guignol, in Vieux Lyon, is the small, atmospheric main venue for Lyon's unique Guignol puppet shows for children and adults. The comic, satirical stock characters represent the city's working people, supposedly rebellious and fond of drink. Guignol is authentic, and provides a good insight into what Lyon is all about. The adventures of the little shoemaker and his silk manufacturing friend Gnafron have fascinated people for more than 200 years, providing a hilarious and intelligent commentary on life behind the scenes in the city.
