MONACO - MONTE CARLO

HISTORY

The sheer Rock of Monaco and its natural harbour have been the source of bitter struggles since earliest antiquity. The Ligurians were the first to make their home there, followed by the Romans and the Barbarians. It wasn't until 1297 that the Genoese Grimaldi family claimed Monaco, beginning a dynasty of Lords and Princes that has lasted over 700 years. After gaining independence in 1489, Monaco was placed under the protection of Spain in 1524, France in 1611, and finally, Sardinia from 1815 to 1860. With the founding of “Monte Carlo” on the Spélugues Plateau in 1866 and the opening of a railway in 1868, the Principality embarked upon a period of great development, becoming an ultra-modern state and playing a key role on the international stage.

Located in the far south-east corner of France, just 12 km from the Italian border, the Principality of Monaco stretches along a narrow 4,4 km strip of coast bordering the Mediterranean Sea at the foot of the Southern Alps. The Principality of Monaco, a historic city looking towards the future

A modern town, Monaco has extended its territory by reclaiming land from the sea; do not miss the Fontvieille district rising up from the water, where technology sits side by side with art. NIGHTLIFE

The night life is an integral part of the legend of the Principality. All different, they complement each other so you experience an exhilarating evening.

Spend unforgettable nights, party at a club and dance until dawn, in the chic, fantastic and unique atmosphere of the Riviera. Have a drink with friends, enjoy the clubs where music accompanies the joie de vivre and gaiety. A night in Monaco offers such variety that you will need to spend more than one night to fully appreciate it, galas at the Salle des Etoiles at the Monte-Carlo Sporting Club, international variety shows at the Cuban bar at the Casino, lounge bars or techno music. Unforgettable memories to take away with you!
