Nantes - A French City Transformed by Art
Tuesday 5, June 2012
From 15 June to 19 August 2012 the city of Nantes will be transformed into a giant artistic trail. Le Voyage à Nantes (A Journey to Nantes) has pulled together the city and surrounding areas to bring it alive by using art to excite, shock and delight!
Le Voyage à Nantes is a cultural trail that crosses Nantes from east to west with a route marked by 30 permanent attractions which, together, make one giant attraction - one which makes Nantes a unique city of art, culture and fun.
Highlights this summer will include the opening of the Machines de l’Ile’s 80 ft high Carrousel des Mondes Marins (the Marine World’s Carousel), the 3rd and final edition of Estuaire art project, the new Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery, not forgetting the mouth-watering food festival Les Goûts Uniques.
Anyone can walk along historic lanes and past contemporary architecture or enjoy stunning views of the city. Further attractions will include new works of art in public spaces, wandering actors popping up in the streets, familiar heritage sites reassessed, unusual Loire river cruises and temporary exhibitions all linked together on a sensitive, fun and poetic journey across the city.
Nantes has long provided inspiration for artists, writers and musicians. For the past 20 years the city has upheld this tradition by investing in important cultural facilities such as the incredible Machines de l’Ile, the Chateau des ducs de Bretagne and the remarkable 2007 and 2010 Estuaire projects from Nantes to Saint Nazaire.

More and more travellers think that researching and planning a European city break is half the fun and they're not interested in pre-arranged trips or escorted tours. Self-guided tours offer a lot of advantages but require some guidance and good resources.
With the recent wild fires, disrupting flights and increasing air pollution, environmental quality is a growing factor in attracting tourists.
The hotel price comparison site www.trivago.co.uk has put together a list of the fifteen most spectacular hotel rooftop terraces in the world.
