National Meetings and Events Week launches with endorsement from sir Richard Branson
Thursday 21, October 2010
National Meetings and Events Week kicks off today as part of the focus period for the Britain for Events 2010 campaign.
The campaign is set to gain new levels of influence this year with increased engagement from the new coalition government and MPs from all parties, as well as the welcomed support of Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Atlantic.
The week itself will see a series of promotions and events across the country, directed at other government and key business leaders. “Britain for Events has been gathering momentum and support over the last few months and we’re delighted with the senior level of our supporters this year, both within the industry and beyond,” comments Simon Mills, campaign coordinator and Head of Business Visits & Events, VisitBritain. “Sir Richard Branson’s endorsement gives us added gravitas as we look to promote our industry in front of the wider business community.”
For the first time the campaign has been boosted with the high profile corporate support of Virgin Atlantic, Costa Coffee and The Premier League as well as representatives throughout the UK from destinations, venues and meeting and event organisations.
As the industry looks to underline its major economic contributions across the UK, a series of simultaneous kick off events will take place, including; the ACC Liverpool on The Big Wheel of Liverpool, the NEC with Malmaison Hotels and Marketing Birmingham, and at Chelsea FC representing both the club and corporate support from The Premier League.
On Tuesday the BVEP will launch the Britain for Events market report, set to clearly outline the growing and significant role meetings and events play for UK business. This vital and much anticipated report will form part of the communication for the House of Commons reception taking place on Wednesday where over 50 MP’s will gain first hand industry intelligence from some of the leading names in the industry.
On Thursday the MIA will be hosting a Chairman’s lunch for the heads of each of the industries trade associations, whilst on Friday the MIA venues across the UK will be hosting local MP’s in their venues as part of the Britain for Events Constituency Day.
