Iceland Express sees passenger increase due to volcano spectacle
Iceland Express has seen a 20 per cent increase in passengers since the volcanic eruption in South Iceland in March 2010. Due to this rise in sales, the low-fare airline is extending the booking period of its special volcano deals, which sees flights.

1st transatlantic green flight: close to 6 tonnes less CO2
This week, sustainable development week, Air France operated the very first transatlantic green flight, during which all procedures – from taxiing to arrival at the parking stand – were optimized to reduce noise and gas emissions. The 9 hour and 30-minute flight from Paris to Miami on 6 April was operated by a Boeing 747-400ER, with 436 passengers and 18 crew members on board.

Norwegian continues its strong passenger growth. In March, 1 021 063 passengers chose to fly with Norwegian, a 30 percent increase from the same period last year. In line with the number of passengers and total production, the load factor improved by 3 percentage points.

Ryanair regrets 18 month delay in runway extension at Belfast City Airport
Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (8th April) criticised the Northern Ireland Govt for its decision to refer the runway extension at Belfast City Airport to a public inquiry, which will delay this promised runway extension by a further 18 months until early 2012, at the earliest.

Ryanair welcomes German court decision to reject passenger compensation claim for bad weather cancellation
Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (8th Apr) welcomed the decision of the German Courts which correctly found that a Ryanair flight which was cancelled due to an unsafe weather conditions in Jerez in Oct 2007 was exceptional circumstances under EU261 regulations. The Court ruled that no compensation was due to passengers in such exceptional circumstances.

Swiss to introduce new Basel-Hamburg service 
SWISS will be offering daily non-stop service between EuroAirport Basel and Hamburg from 20 May. The new route not only serves one of Germany’s prime tourist and business destinations; it will also provide a daily air connection between two of Europe’s major logistics and forwarding centres.

Iberia and British Airways have today taken a further step towards creating a new leading European airline group by signing their merger agreement. The terms of the merger agreement are consistent with the binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the two airlines in November 2009.

Vueling, the new-generation Spanish low-fare airline, will launch flights to Scotland on 24th June, 2010 with a three times weekly direct route between Edinburgh and Barcelona. The new route will complement the airline’s existing UK operations from London Heathrow to Bilbao, La Coruna and Seville.
