Lufthansa flies German team to Johannesburg with A380
Premiere of the new Lufthansa flagship at World Cup with Football Association (DFB) delegation and fans on board. The Lufthansa A380 will celebrate its first long-haul flight in style with an array of special guests on board: The special flight operated by Lufthansa’s new flagship on Sunday, 6 June, will be carrying the German team to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

airBaltic Paints EU Flags on its Aircraft
The Latvian national airline airBaltic has started painting European Union flags on its aircraft following a support vote for the move among the airline's fans in social media. airBaltic will display the EU flag on aircraft flying this summer on 100 routes in Europe, Russia, CIS and the Middle East.

Ryanair urges passengers to travel light during peak summer months
Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (6th Apr) announced that it will incentivise all of its passengers to travel light during the peak summer months by increasing checked-in baggage fees for July and August to €20 per bag, for all bookings made after midnight (24:00hrs) Wed 7th April.

Malev cuts operational costs by HUF 20 billion in 2009
Despite Malév's net loss last year the company performed much better than its regional competitors and the airline spent HUF 20 billion less on operational expenditures in 2009. The operational result was worse last year than in 2008 mainly because of reduced revenue, as was generally the case throughout the entire industry, while the major elements of the net loss derived from the cost of returning the Fokker aircraft and financial costs such as high interest rates.

Domodedovo named the Best Airport of Eastern Europe
The winners of the World Airport Awards 2010 have been announced recently naming the best airports of the world. The survey was conducted by an independent survey organization Skytrax Research from July 2009 to March 2010. This year the number of interviews totaled 9,8 mln. respondents representing over 100 countries.

Two new European destinations out of Copenhagen
On the transition to the summer programme, Air France will open a new route to Lyon, France, and Montenegro Airlines will open a route out of Copenhagen to Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, on 1 May.

Air France Cargo-Klm Cargo Flies World-Famous Matisse Painting To The Netherlands
On Monday, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flew Dance (Danse) – the world-renowned painting by French artist Henri Matisse – from the Hermitage in St Petersburg to the Hermitage Amsterdam, where it can be viewed up to and including 9 May. The enormous painting is the central piece of the ‘Matisse to Malevich’ exhibition, running at the Hermitage Amsterdam until 17 September 2010.

Wizz Air simplifies baggage rules
Wizz Air, the largest low fare – low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe simplifies its baggage rules. From 1 April Wizz Air eliminates the excess weight fees and makes booking even easier. The airline will apply a single fee for a piece of checked-in baggage regardless of the weight (up to 32 kg per baggage).

Ryanair calls on govt to axe the EU 10 tourist tax
Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (1st Apr 10) called on the Irish Govt to axe the €10 tourist tax after 4m fewer passengers (a slump of 13%) travelled through Irish Airports in the first 12 months of the tax.
