Expected guidelines for gate-to-gate use of PEDs
WIFI on aircrafts has been a hot issue for a while As the airline industry waits for the FAA to publish guidelines concerning the use of personal electronic devices (PEDs) during all phases of flight, including takeoff and landing, the agency last week proposed mandating the replacement of certain Honeywell cockpit display units due to concerns over their susceptibility to electromagnetic interference (EMI) from Wi-Fi signals.

Qatar Airways finally heading for Mombasa?
According to the latest reports, Qatar Airways, may now finally commence a daily service to Mombasa by the end of August this year. The airline will be using Airbus A320 aircraft for this route. Last year the start of scheduled flights was delayed over what appears to have been a traffic right issue.

Ash collected from Icelandic volcanoes and transported on easyJet in preparation for testing
easyJet and its partners Airbus and Nicarnica are planning the final stage of testing for the AVOID technology. Last week easyJet flew back a tonne of volcanic ash from Iceland collected by the Institute of Earth Sciences in Reykjavik. The ash, dried to create the consistency of fine talc, will be used in a unique experiment which is planned for this summer.
