`Rome Runs with the Best at Maratona di Roma`

The historical city of Rome would again welcome thousands of runners and visitors from all over the world to this year's edition of the Maratona di Roma - the Rome Marathon.

Scheduled to be held on the 21st of March 2010, the Rome Marathon takes its participants through one of the most visually stunning running routes in the world lined with historical landmarks, beautifully sculptured life-sized statues, beautiful architecture and an amazing view of the river. Those thinking of coming to Rome during this time should make their bookings for Rome hotels soon.

More than 11,000 runners participated in the 2009 Rome Marathon and a higher number of entrants are expected this year. It is going to be quite a challenge to maneuver the narrow, cobblestone streets with tight corners that are bound to create some congestion. Starting from the 2000 year old Coliseum, where fierce gladiators once fought for their freedom, the runners would find it hard not to stop and feast their eyes on the magnificent Saint Peter's Basilica, the romantic Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona and many others. The Rome Marathon is certainly a great way to exercise and go sight-seeing at the same time.

The Maratona di Roma is not just for the die-hard marathon runners. It also offers the highly popular event called the 'RomaFun - "La Stracittadina", a non-competitive 4km run. More of a leisurely walk, the event attracts all kind of participants, from teenagers and their friends, senior citizens, and parents and their young children. Minutes after the marathoners are sent off; these fun-seeking participants would take to the streets where the fun continues even after the finishing line outside Emperor Nero's Golden House with an almost festival-like atmosphere.
