Swissotel Hotels & Resorts Continues Expansion Into Eastern EuropeThursday 24, June 2010

The Swissotel Hotels & Resorts portfolio continues to grow: a new deluxe hotel is currently under construction in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv and is scheduled to open in mid 2012. A management agreement was recently signed between Swissotel Hotels & Resorts and the KDD Group, one of the leading property and investment companies in the Ukraine.
The future Swissôtel Kyiv will form part of the "Sky Towers", a mixed use development comprised of twin towers of 34 and 47 storeys. Sky Towers is located in Peremogy Avenue, centrally positioned close to Kyiv city centre and the main train station and is comprised of hotel facilities, serviced residences and grade A offices.
The Swissôtel Kyiv is anticipated to welcome guests for the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship and features 513 guestrooms and suites, 14 serviced residences, 4000m of conference space, as well as a 3000m spa. Business travelers and independent tourists alike will enjoy a selection of dining experiences ranging in selection from the fine dining restaurant to the all-day restaurant Café Swiss, as well the lobby lounge and a contemporary bar.
"Following on from our successful Russian hotel in Moscow, Swissôtel Krasnye Holmy, Swissôtel Kyiv will be another significant step for us in our expansion into Eastern Europe," according to Meinhard Huck, President of Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts. "Kyiv is home to governmental ministries and authorities, but also to the mechanical engineering, aircraft industries, light and agricultural industries, as well as the state chemical industry. The Ukrainian metropolis is also one of the most important transport nodal points/centres of communication in Eastern Europe - an environment in which superior quality international hotel chains are still in short supply."
Alexander Levin, Chairman of KDD Group, commented: "The board of KDD Group believes that the Kyiv hotel market has significant potential for such high quality projects as Sky Towers and we are very proud to have such a strong and renowned international partner as Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts."
The city of Kyiv has almost 3 million inhabitants and, along with Lviv and Odessa, is the cultural centre of Ukraine. The city on the river Dnieper has 99 academic institutions, 25 museums, numerous theatres, as well as world-famous historical landmarks.
