Teplice is situated in the hollow between Krušné hory and ÄŒeské stÅ™edohoÅ™í. It belongs to the oldest as well as the most modern spas in Europe. Healing springs in the Teplice valley were probably known already 2000 years ago, which is proved by the archaeological finds of Roman coins in PravÅ™ídlo and the finds of Celtic coins and jewels from the beginning of our epoch in ObÅ™í Pramen near Duchcov. The old habit, known already in the Classical Greece and Rome, to show one’s gratitude to healing power of mineral springs by throwing coins or other gifts into the spring, brought the confirmation of the fact that these springs are one of the oldest and most intensively used ones in Europe. The historic records from the early Middle Ages mention settlements of Slavic inhabitants and foundation of the Benedictine monastery of St. John the Baptist by Queen Judith. The spa buildings are set in the middle of the town in beautiful green of the parks and orchards.
The Teplice spa experienced its greatest boom during the first half of the nineteenth century, when it was sometimes called the "social salon of Europe". The beautiful Classical and Empire style spa buildings helped to attract the likes of Goethe, Beethoven, Paganini, Jungmann, Palacky, and Neruda.
Today the spa is used to help treat health problems of the locomotor and circulatory systems, as well as nerve diseases and psychological disorders. Tourists visiting this area can utilize the thermal water in the swimming pool and the indoor city baths.

The source of the Teplice thermal mineral waters is characterised as natural, slightly mineralised, hydrocarbonate-sulphate-sodium type with a high level of fluoride and a slight trace of radon. The thermal springs “PravÅ™ídlo” (Primary Hot Spring) and "Hynie" Spring are used for spa purposes. The thermal water has a temperature of 39-44°C (102°-111.5° Fahrenheit).
In all spa houses, the springs are used mainly for treatment of locomotive organs and vascular diseases. Based on medicine and balneology, treatment of post-traumatic conditions and treatment of children with hypokinesia as a consequence of injury to the central nervous system has brought good results. Occupational diseases caused by vibration are also treated successfully. In addition to the already mentioned indications, the Teplice Spa offers to strengthen your health with a broad range of relaxation and rest procedures, which will help you to generate new energy.
