The pre-tours, an essential complement to Fitur meetings and events

This coming year, the commercial activity of FITUR MEETINGS & EVENTS, being held on January 18, will again give attendees the chance to see first-hand some of Spain’s most competitive business tourism destinations through the pretours, which are being organized in cooperation with Turespaña and the Spain Convention Bureau.

On this occasion, international buyers going on these familiarization trips will be able to get to know, from January 15 to 17, the proposals offered by places such as Bilbao, Elche, Granada, Madrid and Zamora.

Visitors choosing to go to the Basque Country to roam the streets of Bilbao will discover a city that has turned its ability to adapt to new trends into one of its main draws, and which has resulted in the city being awarded the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize, considered the Nobel Prize of cities. During their tour of the city, participants in FITUR MEETINGS & EVENTS will become acquainted with the enclaves that make Bilbao the perfect destination for organizing congresses, meetings, conventions, and all types of events. The tour will, of course, include a stop at the unique Guggenheim Museum, which has emerged as one of the city’s most iconic images. Trade professionals will likewise tour the old quarter and enjoy another of its great attractions: the unrivaled Basque cuisine and its unique pintxos. International guests will also see other one-of-a-kind venues suitable for hosting events, such as the AlhóndigaBilbao, a former wine warehouse that has been converted into a leisure and cultural center, and the Euskalduna Palace, regarded by the International Association of Congress Centers as one of the finest in the world.

MEETINGS, GASTRONOMY AND CULTURE

Those professionals wishing to go to Elche instead will also learn of the features and services offered by its Convention Center, which will host the event. Along with this center, the city is also home to other venues capable of hosting these types of event, like those at the Miguel Hernández University, the facilities available at various sites that specialize in this type of tourism, such as the Huerto del Cura Hotel, and the facilities of the Alicante fair grounds. To complement the conference activities, international buyers who choose to go on this pretour will also have a chance to see its attractions as a tourism destination, such as the surprising Palmeral de Elche, where they will see one of the pillars of its economy, the shoemaking industry. While there, they will also be able to taste its excellent Mediterranean cuisine.

Granada, too, will turn its typical dishes and wines into a key ingredient of its pretour, which is why the organizers of this trip have included a visit to the Pago de Almares Winery, where the tasting will feature both wines and local dishes, in what should be a very enticing way to regain your strength after off-roading in the Guadix district, characterized by arid landscapes of clay sculpted by wind and water. This will be followed by a visit to the region’s unique cave houses. As part of the leisure program that will round out the journey through the various venues offered by Granada for hosting all types of meetings, congresses, conventions and, in general, any type of incentive trip, visitors will be treated to a tour of the Alhambra, the Generalife and the Sacromonte quarter, three icons of some of the cultures that have left their mark in the city.

EVERY POSSIBILITY TO DO BUSINESS

Madrid, for its part, will showcase its infinite possibilities for hosting all types of events in a wide variety of venues. International guests of FITUR MEETINGS & EVENTS will get to know, among others, enclaves such as the elegant Casino of Madrid, the bohemian rooms of the Círculo de Bellas Artes (Association of Fine Arts), the stately halls of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, or the unique venues offered by the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium or the Caja Mágica (Magic Box) sports arena. These visits will be intertwined with cultural offerings, such as tours of the Madrid of the Habsburgs and of the town of Alcalá, among others. Along with these trips, visitors can partake in the city’s most vibrant spots and revel in its lively nightlife and the countless possibilities available to shopaholics.

Another destination that will boast of its beautiful natural heritage and its remarkable cuisine as a way to lure incentive trips is Zamora. Its pretour itinerary will include a trip of the Sierra de la Culebra, one of the last nature reserves in Spain for the Iberian wolf, and a tasting of the exceptional Toro wines during a visit to the wine tourism complexes of Monterraleina, Valbusenda and Estancia Piedra. The city of Zamora itself boasts an extraordinary historical heritage that converts it into a privileged setting for any gathering. Visitors will be treated to tours of various Roman temples and of the city’s different convention centers.

The six pretour programs chosen for this edition of FITUR MEETINGS & EVENTS will showcase to foreign buyers the exceptional ability of Spain’s business travel offerings to combine work with pleasure, characteristics that will also be on display at the meetings between buyers and sellers that will be held during the workshop once the Fair starts. The work session on January 18 will conclude with a gala dinner offered by TURESPAÑA, Turismo Madrid, Promoción Madrid and the Madrid Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
