Frequent fliers of U.S. Airways and American Airlines can earn and redeem
Frequent fliers on American and U.S. Airways can now start using their benefits through both airlines.
US AIrways will be exiting Star Alliance on March 30, 2014. Passengers will be able to earn and redeem miles on Star Alliance carriers until that date. Any existing reservations for travel on a codeshare flight with a Star Alliance partner after March 30, 2014 are safe; however, passengers will be rebooked with a new flight number from the carrier operating the flight, and earning miles on Star Alliance will no longer be an option. Also US Airways passengers will no longer benefit from their sometimes long earned Star Alliance Gold or Silver benefits.
US Airways will be joining the OneWorld Alliance. American Airlines was a founding member of that competing alliance.
That's according to a statement released Tuesday from American. The airline merged with U.S. Airways back in December and kept the American name.
With this week's announcement, frequent fliers can earn and redeem miles on either airline and members will be allowed in each airline's clubs.
Company officials say the new measures are the first steps to fully integrate the two frequent flier programs into one.

Members can also earn elite-qualifying miles, points and segments on eligible US Airways flights. Plus, AAdvantage elite status members will receive select reciprocal elite benefits when flying on US Airways including priority check-in, security and boarding, free checked bags and more.
You can continue to book your flights and manage your AAdvantage account on aa.com, where US Airways flights are available for booking as well".
