Virgin America 60 new eco-friendly planes
Thursday 20, January 2011
The new Virgin America planes will be delivered starting in 2013, including 30 A320neo aircraft.
This marks the first commercial order for the new eco-efficient engine option, which is expected to be one of the most carbon and fuel-efficient commercial aircraft in the world.
To celebrate the news, Virgin America has launched a Sweet 60 sale on flights across its network. Selected flights are available from just $60.
David Cush, Virgin America President and CEO, said: "At just three years old and at a time when many carriers are contracting, we’re pleased to be growing and bringing our award-winning service to new markets.
"We credit a great deal of our success to date to having the right aircraft. The low operating costs, cabin comfort and carbon-efficient design of our all new Airbus A320 Family fleet has helped fuel our growth and success in the North American market – and we’re confident the A320neo will only build on that.”
The A320neo's fuel efficiency is estimated to yield annual savings of $1.1 million per aircraft on average, and will emit 3,600 fewer tons of CO2 per aircraft per year.
What's more, the neo will employ special "Sharklets", innovative wing tips designed to enhance eco-efficiency and payload-range performance.
More and more travellers think that researching and planning a European city break is half the fun and they're not interested in pre-arranged trips or escorted tours. Self-guided tours offer a lot of advantages but require some guidance and good resources.
With the recent wild fires, disrupting flights and increasing air pollution, environmental quality is a growing factor in attracting tourists.
