Virgin Atlantic update - Flight disruptions due to severe weather in the UK
Saturday 18, December 2010
The severe weather conditions are affecting services to and from a number of UK airports.
Virgin Atlantic is working hard to get everyone away safely and endeavouring to operate as much of our flying programme as they can during this most critical time of year, however all flights are delayed and many are now cancelled.
It is essential to check Flight Status for the latest information on our flight schedules before you travel to the airport. In addition please update your mobile phone details in My Booking in order for us to send text messages in the event of significant disruptions
London Gatwick Airport - Latest news
Gatwick airport has reopened and most of our delayed flights are departing over the next few hours. As a result of the runway closure some Gatwick arrivals have been diverted into Stansted airport.
All our flights are operating with some delays
Heathrow is not expected to reopen until 06:00H on Sunday 19th December and therefore Virgin Atlantic has cancelled all the flights departing on 18th December.
Some flights due to arrive in Heathrow on Saturday18th have been diverted to other airports in the UK and Europe.
Departing from overseas airports
If your flight has been cancelled or delayed overnight please do not travel to the airport
Due to the very high call volumes Virgin Atlantic is experiencing much longer waiting times and our call holding capacity is full. The severe weather has impacted our UK contact centre staff resources and they therefore urge passengers to return home and call us on Sunday 19th and Monday 20th to make new bookings. Passengers who booked through a travel agent should call them directly.
VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PASSENGERS ON CANCELLED FLIGHTS WHO ARE AWAY FROM HOME
Virgin Atlantic is focussing on their recovery plan to bring people back home. Because so many aircraft are out of position it will be a little while before things are completely returned to normal. If they cannot rebook you on flights departing within the next 3-4 days you will be asked to give us your contact details and they will be in touch with your new flight details as soon as we have them confirmed.
