VisitDenmark and Wonderful Copenhagen received Expedia's award for “Best City Campaign Scandinavia 2009” at an award ceremony hosted by Richard Warburton Director Europe, Expedia Media Solutions, and taking place last week at ITB Berlin.
“Visit Denmark and Wonderful Copenhagen continue to lead the way with cutting edge, innovative destination marketing campaigns. In 2009 they created a highly effective campaign. They leveraged Expedia’s position as the market leader, to inspire travellers through deep, engaging content to convert into actual incremental visitors to Denmark. Denmark was the first ever destination to feature on a homepage takeover across Expedia’s European sites for one week. The campaign was also timed to coincide with the Danish national day and key booking windows for the destination. After five successful years of working in partnership, Expedia are delighted to celebrate this 2009 campaign with such innovative and strategic partners. We will continue to inspire Expedia’s travellers across our global brands and encourage them to experience the unique spirit and attractions the country has to offer”, said Richard Warburton, Expedia.
“VisitDenmark is proud to accept this award for a campaign that has produced good business results for both our companies and opened the opportunity for travellers to experience our beautiful country Denmark as well as the capital of Copenhagen”, said VisitDenmark International Project Manager, Anne Grethe Dong Jensen.
“Copenhagen is Wonderful. But an essential prerequisite for experiencing our beautiful city is accessibility. Our strategic partnership with Expedia boosts our accessibility and gives immediate return on investment. Wonderful Copenhagen is delighted to receive the award for some efficient marketing campaigns in 2009”, said Marketing Manager, Birgitte Arendsdorf Olsen.
The 2009 campaign was a co-operation between VisitDenmark, Wonderful Copenhagen, Scandinavian Airlines as well as a number of hotels in Copenhagen and was part of a multi-country homepage spotlight campaign on the Expedia website. Copenhagen was featured in advertising space on the homepages of Expedia sites in France (www.expedia.fr), Germany (www.expedia.de), Italy (www.expedia.it) and the UK (www.expedia.co.uk), which was highlighting the city’s most popular attractions and offering cost-saving deals on trips to Denmark.
More and more travellers think that researching and planning a European city break is half the fun and they're not interested in pre-arranged trips or escorted tours. Self-guided tours offer a lot of advantages but require some guidance and good resources.
With the recent wild fires, disrupting flights and increasing air pollution, environmental quality is a growing factor in attracting tourists.
