The Historical Museum occupies eleven houses in the Old Town, eight facing the Old Town Square and three on Nowomiejska Street. The houses comprise 52 rooms with permanent exhibitions, 4 with temporary exhibitions, a cinema, a library, and a reading room. It collects various ‘varsaviana’, objects connected with Warsaw’s history: paintings, graphics, sculptures, archaeological objects, handicraft, medals and numismatic objects, architectonic drafts and sketches, photographs, negatives, postcards, records, a library, books and periodicals.

The Pawiak Prison Museum is a former investigative prison, which had particular importance during the World War II. It held people arrested in roundups, members of the resistance and political prisoners. Although there is an emphasis on the period of German occupation, the exhibition "Pawiak 1835-1944" covers the entire period of activity of the prison, and is based on an original design which was created by renowned Warsaw architect Henryk Marconi between 1830-1836.

The Mausoleum of battle and Martyrdom is located in the left wing of the Ministry of Education, which housed the headquarters of the Security Police and Security Service during the occupation. The basement was used as an investigative prison, where detainees were tortured; it was also here that mass executions of Poles took place during the Warsaw Uprising. Visitors can access and see collective cells, known as the "trams", hallways, isolation chambers and the office of the Gestapo guard, in which hearings were held.

The Citadel is an impressive 19th century fortress, and one of the best-preserved buildings of defensive architecture in Poland. In addition to the barracks, the Citadel site housed the central investigative prison for political prisoners (in the X Pavilion), such as Romuald Traugutt and Józef PiÅ‚sudski. The Warsaw Citadel is one of the most important 'martyr museums' in Poland.

The Royal Castle in Warsaw – a Cultural and Historical Monument of national importance. Formerly the residence of kings and the seat of the Parliament of the Polish-Lithuanian Republic, today, the segment with the clock tower opens the way to the Old Town. Museum attractions include two original Rembrandt paintings as well as works by Bernard Bellotto, aka Canaletto, court painter to Polish King StanisÅ‚aw August Poniatowski. Canaletto’s paintings were vital during Warsaw’s post-war reconstruction.. The Castle has been added, to the UNESCO World National Heritage list.

Wilanow Palace together with its park and other buildings is one of the most precious monuments of Polish national culture. It represents the characteristical type of baroque suburban residence entre cour et jardin (between the court and garden). Its architecture is very original – it is a merger of European art with Old-Polish building tradition and its elevation and palace interiors that, using antique symbols, glorifies the Sobieski family, especially military triumphs of the king.

The Warsaw Rising Museum is one of the most visited places in Warsaw. Opened on the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of fighting in the city, it is a tribute to those who fought and died for a free Poland and its capital. The exhibition shows the struggle of everyday life before and during the Warsaw Uprising and the horror of occupation – which was a complex international situation – to the post-war communist terror and the fate of insurgents in the PRL. Images and sounds present the days prior to the outbreak of the Uprising, its subsequent phases, as well as the insurgents’ exit and their subsequent fate. With an area of over 3,000 meters, there are nearly 1,000 exhibits and 1,500 photographs and films.

The museum of Maria Skłodowskiej-Curie is situated at 16 Freta St. in Warsaw, in a historic house (XVIII century), where Maria was born in 1867. There are four rooms in the Museum, which show the everyday life and work of Maria Skłodowska, and also her scientific achievements, honours she received and long-term consequences of her scientific discoveries.

Built in 1897, the factory was part of the so-called 'Warsaw Rectification in Praga' (Rektyfikacja Warszawska na Pradze) and until very recently, the Koneser Vodka Distillery factory had its headquarters here. Currently, the factory holds a number of cultural institutions (the Teatr Wytwornia and the well-known Galeria Luksfera and Galeria Klimy Bochenskiej art galleries), and many cultural events take place there on a regular basis.

The Museum of the Mazovian Countryside is engaged in the gathering and preservation of historic monuments of folk culture. It is composed of a skansen (ethnographic park) outside of the city, and of a 19th-century city hall in the center of the town. The open-air museum occupies a beautiful area of over 60 hectares, situated on the Sierpienica river. Over 80 objects of wooden architecture of the north-west Mazovia region are presented in the park, including peasant homesteads (residential buildings and livestock), a tavern, a blacksmith shop, a windmill, a chapel and a church.
