Arundel Castle Unveils Extensive Events Calendar

Arundel Castle has announced a packed events schedule for 2014 which promises yet another thrilling season, including four brand new entries.

New for 2014 is Life in a Medieval Castle, a special event spanning the weekend of 16-17 August. Set in a historical tented encampment, Raven Tor Living History Group will be portraying the life and times of people living in and next to a Medieval Castle throughout the 14th and 15th Centuries. This historical extravaganza charts changes in weaponry, costume, food and art, whilst bringing the Castle to life with characters and displays from the period.

Arundel Castle is also delighted to welcome back visitor highlight It’s the History Man! for the new season. Historical interpreter Paul Ullson can be found at various locations throughout the Castle during the summer months, bringing a variety of historical characters back to life. Adding to his extensive repertoire, Paul will be introducing three new characters to enthral Castle visitors in 2014: a Saxon warrior, an Iron Age warrior and a Civil War surgeon.

The pinnacle of the Castle’s open season is undisputedly the spectacular Jousting and Medieval Tournament Week – Europe’s largest and the world’s longest competition of its kind. Competitors from across the globe will gather to compete at Arundel Castle including a new team from Poland alongside knights from France, Holland, Norway and England, and an English knight returning from Australia for the occasion.

In addition to free-flow and guided tours of the Castle’s carefully preserved rooms, and 40 acres of stunning grounds and gardens, the 2014 Arundel Castle calendar is filled with thrilling historical events and activities to entertain the whole family.

Bryan McDonald, Castle Manager, commented: “We are delighted to be able to offer our visitors such an exciting calendar of events this year. Our historical interpretations are always popular events with all ages – it is particularly rewarding to see the interest of younger generations piqued by the past.

“With so many additions to our events, and the expansion of the Jousting and Medieval Tournament Week, I am confident that this will be another tremendously exciting year for Arundel Castle for staff and visitors alike!”
