Brussels Airlines increases frequency to Africa and Europe this winter

Brussels Airlines welcomes the winter season 2010-2011, which will begin at the end of next week, with new African destinations and increased frequency on a number of European routes.

In comparison with last year, this winter season sees an average of 5% more flights offered. Thanks to partnerships with Star Alliance partners, Brussels Airlines now offers flights to the US and Canada.

Brussels Airlines will offer about 250 flights on weekdays this winter season (which runs from end October till end March 2011). About 32,000 direct flights will be offered in all. This is an increase of around 5% compared with the last winter season (2009-2010). On top of that, thanks to the partnership with a number of other airlines Brussels Airlines can further expand its network offer.

Intercontinental growth

Accra, Ouagadougou, Cotonou and Lome, Brussels Airlines' 4 new African destinations, ill be included for the first time in the winter schedule. Including these capitals of Ghana, Burkina Faso, Benin and Togo, Brussels Airlines now offers African destinations in 17 countries. Brussels Airlines is also increasing the frequency and seat capacity to Kenya and Rwanda, thanks to an additional flight to Nairobi and Kigali. Moreover, thanks to the cooperation between Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa, flights to a number of other African destinations are also available.

Brussels Airlines also offers new travel possibilities to the US and Canada. Thanks to recent partnership agreements with Star Alliance partners United Airlines, Continental Airlines, US Airways and Air Canada, Brussels Airlines now offers direct flights from Brussels Airport to Newark, Chicago, Washington, Philadelphia and Montreal. There are also numerous other cities in the US and Canada that can be easily accessed via a transfer at these airports. Brussels Airlines will also be present for the first time this winter in Shanghai (China) thanks to a partnership with Hainan Airlines. All these flights will be offered under the SN code.

European expansion

Brussels Airlines also has a number of new plans for its European passengers compared with the last winter season. The short and medium-haul network connects to 45 airports in 17 countries.

Flight frequency to a number of destinations has been increased to offer greater travel flexibility. Among others, frequencies to Hannover, Newcastle, Bristol, Geneva, Vienna and Berlin have been increased. A partnership with Star Alliance partner Blue1 guarantees daily flights to Helsinki, and on to a number of other Finnish destinations from there. A commercial agreement with Star Alliance partner Croatia Airlines makes the Croatian capital Zagreb easily accessible. Also new this winter season is a partnership with Estonian Airlines in which Brussels Airlines offers its clients the choice of three flights weekly between the European capital and Tallinn.
