easyJet launches Belfast – Malta route

easyJet will start its new service from Belfast International Airport to Malta, which increases routes served from Northern Ireland to 20.

The route will be launched by His Excellency Joseph Zammit Tabona, Malta’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. He will be at the airport to greet passengers and will travel with them on the inaugural flight.

Today’s 156 passengers will fly on easyJet’s Airbus 319 aircraft ‘Pride of Malta’, which was recently named by the Maltese Prime Minister at the launch of easyJet’s maintenance partnership with SR Technics; under which easyJet’s fleet is overhauled on the Island.

His Excellency Joseph Zammit Tabona, Malta’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, said: “I am delighted to launch this direct link from Belfast to Malta.

“easyJet is a key partner, and connections between United Kingdom and Malta have never been this good. Through the addition of the twice-weekly route from Belfast, the people of Northern Ireland can now easily access Malta and all that is has to offer.”

Paul Simmons, easyJet’s regional general manager, said: “We’re delighted to be launching this new route to Malta, which is a popular destination for leisure and business travellers, and strengthens easyJet’s existing destinations from Northern Ireland.

“Malta has a rich history that is evident in its stunning architecture. For today’s visitors, there is also the obvious attraction of clear blue waters and dry, warm summers.”

John Doran, chief executive at Belfast International Airport, said: “It’s great to see the return of direct flights to Malta from Belfast International Airport.

“Malta has always been a popular destination with local travellers. We are delighted that easyJet has decided to introduce this new service, making the island easily accessible and a good-value option for holidaymakers.”

Fares on easyJet’s Belfast to Malta route start from £25.99 (one-way, including taxes).

Each week, there will be a Tuesday flight leaving Belfast at 08:00 and arriving in Malta at 12:50; and a Saturday flight leaving at 13:35 and arriving at 18:25.

From Malta, the flight times are 13:25 on Tuesday, arriving at 16:30; and on Saturday, leaving at 19:00 and arriving at 22:05.
