Helsinki Airport - in July arrive at the airport in time

The summer holiday season is one of the busiest periods at Helsinki Airport. Particularly during the first weekend of July the airport is busy. So, make sure that you arrive at the airport well in advance.

Particularly between 6.30 and 8.30am and between 3 and 5pm, it is advisable to reserve plenty of time for the check-in, security checks and passport control.

Advance check-in

A number of airlines flying from Helsinki Airport provide their passengers with an advance check-in service in which you can already bring your baggage to the airport the previous evening. For advance check-in times contact your airline.

Check-in kiosks and online check-in

For a quick and easy check-in, use the Internet, text messaging or check-in kiosks. You can also check in on line or use the check-in kiosks when you have suitcases or sports equipment going in to the hold, such as golf bags.

Check-in times and other terms of carriage vary for each airline. You must check in prior to the minimum times specified by each airline. In most cases, you must be at the departure gate about 30 minutes before the departure.

Leave insecticides at home – put suntan lotions and sports equipment in check-in baggage

When you already take security requirements into consideration when packing, your trip becomes smoother and you do not need to hand over any of your belongings at the security control. Remember that you are not allowed to take flammable, toxic or corrosive substances on board an aircraft. This ban covers such items as insecticides and hairspray bottles of more than 500 millilitres. Suntan lotion bottles of more than 100 millilitres and other liquids must be put in checked baggage.
