New Pullman opens up China’s “Wild West”

The launch of the Pullman Lijiang Resort & Spa in Yunnan province signals the opening up of China’s spectacularly beautiful western region, an area that has become increasingly popular with experienced Australian travellers.

Lijiang is the gateway to some of China’s most attractive wilderness and mountain areas, and is particularly popular with more adventurous travelers (ie second or third time China tourists). With narrow, cobbled streets, traditional wooden houses and canals, the city is a charming base. In nearby areas there are spectacular waterfalls, trekking, Tiger Leaping Gorge, therapeutic pools…and wide-open space.

Pullman Lijiang Resort & Spa encapsulates the beauty of China with modern architecture and traditional NaXi-inspired design. Located adjacent to ShuHe Ancient Town and 10 minutes away from downtown Lijiang and the UNESCO World Heritage Site DaYan Ancient Town, it offers a mixture of rooms and villas with private courtyards and mountain views. The resort boasts a 2000sqm indoor/outdoor spa, lakeside bars, stylish restaurants, a library, extensive conferencing facilities plus WiFi access.

To celebrate the grand opening, Pullman Lijiang Resort & Spa is offering a Spring/Summer promotional package: From 1 April till 30 June, 2011, guests will be entitled to a complimentary third night stay if they book rooms for two consecutive nights. According to Senior VP China, Robert Murray, Yunnan is an ideal place for more experienced travelers to China.

“We expect Lijiang to be popular with travellers who are already familiar with China,” said Murray. “They may have visited major cities such as Shanghai and Beijing as well as key tourist destinations such as Xi’an for the terracotta warriors…now they’re looking for lesser-known and more authentic Chinese experiences. Yunnan is perfect for that. The wilderness is stunning, there is incredible history and real character. Access is getting easier from major gateway cities and more ground operators are setting up to provide tours of the area.”

Tranquil Resort Setting

The tranquil resort, boasting uninterrupted and stunning views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, is located adjacent to Shuhe Ancient Town and just minutes away from downtown Lijiang as well as Dayan Ancient Town, a UNESCO world heritage site.

Inspired by local Naxi ethnic minority architecture and with contemporary Chinese elements perfectly blended in its interior design, the low-rise, full-service resort is set amidst lush gardens featuring canals and a central lake and functions as a destination in itself.

Each villa at Pullman Lijiang Resort & Spa, occupying a space of between 106 and 232 square meters, offers private courtyard gardens with outdoor heated tubs available in selected deluxe units.

Exquisite and Creative Dining

There are various dining options at the resort's five restaurants and bars and are designed to pamper even the most discerning palates. Xi Western Restaurant, where both an international buffet as well as a la carte are available and offers a wide selection of international cuisines using  fresh local ingredients. At Zun Chinese Restaurant, Chow Chou cuisine finds its inspiration from the local Naxi ethnic minority.

MIST Lobby Lounge and Bar is the right place for those who seek a casual and relaxing ambience, whilst for nature admirers, the 1919 Bar, offers spectacular views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The Tian Lu Library is set to be the first choice for culture lovers where they will get access to a selection of books and magazines over a cup of coffee or tea.

Co-Meeting and Events

Boasting five multi-functional meeting rooms and a 333-square-meter ballroom in local Naxi architectural style, the Pullman Lijiang Resort & Spa is a perfect place for conferences and events. In addition to state-of-the-art audio and visual facilities, complimentary WiFi access and "Chill-out" space for delegates, the resort, with a dedicated team of Co-Meeting and Event managers, is on hand to assistance to conference and event organisors by providing tailor-made innovative breaks as well as ideas and executions for customized themed events.

At Pullman, every room and villa is equipped with broadband Internet connections while complimentary WiFi access is also available throughout the resort. At the Connectivity Lounge (Business Center), webcam-equipped PCs, as well as other office equipment, is at the service of the guests

Mandara Spa, most acclaimed for unique and exotic spa treatments, serves as an oasis of relaxation and rejuvenation for body and soul. A fully-equipped fitness centre, open 24 hours a day, allows guests options for exercise at any time.
