Information received from the Icelandic Meteorological Office has confirmed that explosive activity from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano increased in the last two days with ash ejected to a height of between 20,000 and 30,000 ft at times.

Latest statement on the volcanic ash situation
The no-fly zone imposed by the Civil Aviation Authority continues to move further south and west in line with the high density area of the volcanic ash cloud. According to latest information from the Met Office, Edinburgh Airport will come out of the no-fly zone and become available for operations from 1900 (local).

Aer Arann wishes to advise customers that due to shifting weather patterns the volcanic ash cloud emanating from Iceland has moved back over Ireland and the UK. As a result, restrictions have been placed on flights to and from certain Irish and UK airports on Wednesday 5th May and Thursday 6th May.

Since Monday 3 May, increased earthquake activity beneath Eyjafjallajökull has been recorded. Precise locations of the earthquakes show that their source is at first very deep, at about 23 km depth, but then migrates upwards.
