The Porto Cathedral located in the historical centre of the city of Porto, is one of the city's oldest monuments and one of the most important Romanesque monuments in Portugal.

 

PALACIO DE BOLSA

The Palácio da Bolsa (Stock Exchange Palace) is a historical building in Oporto, designated World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Porto Commercial Association started building the Palacio da Bolsa, its seat and property in 1842. Throughout three generation, many masters and craftsmen worked towards the building of this 19th century architectural jewel in neoclassical style. The highlight of the Palace is the Arab Room decorated in the exotic Moorish Revival style, fashionable in the 19th century, and is used as reception hall for personalities and heads of state visiting Porto.

The Church of Saint Francis is the most prominent Gothic monument in Oporto, being also noted for its outstanding Baroque inner decoration. It is located in the historic centre of the city, declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. What from outside looks like an ordinary 14th century Gothic and Baroque construction, has the most extraordinary church interior in Oporto and unquestionably one of the most fabulously opulent in all of Europe.

The Clérigos Church is a Baroque church in Oporto. Its tall bell tower, the Torre dos Clérigos (76 meters, 240 steps), can be seen from various points of the city and is one of its most characteristic symbols.

Located on the riverbank of Vila Nova de Gaia, The House of Sandeman building boasts one of the best views of Porto, a city declared as World Heritage by UNESCO. This handsome building is believed to be the work of the architect Joaquim da Costa Lima Sampaio, who also designed the city’s Royal Palace and may have been built as early as 1797. Sandeman took possession of this majestic building in 1811.

 

TAYLOR'S PORT

Opening hours: July-August, Monday-Saturday 10:00-18:00, September-June, Monday-Friday 10:00-18:00

During the tour the visitor will be given the opportunity to learn about the fascinating history of Port wine, as well as that of the House of Taylor Fladgate - now in its fourth century - making it one of the oldest Port companies. Upon completing the tour, which is free of charge, guests are invited to taste two Port wines in the elegant Library Room. Visitors can also taste the aromatic Olive oil from Quinta de Vargellas, one of the world’s great classic vineyards. Afterwards, relax on the terrace, which has magnificent views over the city of Oporto.

The Biscainhos Palace exhibits the collections of Decorative arts, integrating areas in which the atmosphere of the 18th century Northern Manor House is recreated. In the collection there is furniture, ceramics, European and Oriental porcelain, European Glass, European and Portuguese watches and clocks. The magnificent gardens, decorated in a remarkably interesting style, were built at three levels, surrounded by a wall with butresses and sentries, like a 16th century fortress.

 

SANTUARIO DO BOM JESUS DO MONTE

Opening hours: 7:30-20:00

Getting there: Taxi from Braga (5 km) and Funicular: 0,6 EUR/person

Bom Jesus do Monte is a Portuguese sanctuary in the surroundings of the city of Braga. The Sanctuary is a notable example of pilgrimage site with a monumental, Baroque stairway that climbs 116 metres.
