Season's eatings at Heathrow

Heathrow is getting into the festive spirit by serving up seasonal treats with a difference to arriving passengers on Thursday 16 December – one of Heathrow’s busiest days of the year with over 300,000 people expected to fly through the airport.

Dashing male waiters dressed in tuxedos will be positioned across Heathrow’s terminals to give out thousands of freshly baked Christmas Pudding cupcakes – complete with white icing and a sprig of holly.

Bringing some added festive cheer and excitement to people’s travels, Heathrow has hidden some extra treats in the festive cupcakes. Rather than the customary sixpence, the airport is offering sixteen passengers the chance to win a range of treats from luxury chocolates to perfumes and gift boxes which are all available from Heathrow’s shops.

The bitesize treats will be handed out to music from The Salvation Army brass band, who will be performing Christmas Carols in Heathrow’s terminals throughout December. Heathrow’s resident Chaplin Melvyn Ackroyd and his team will also be holding a number of Christmas services including the first ever United Christmas Carol service in the airport’s Chapel on Thursday 21 December at 12.30pm.

Heathrow flies more people to and from the world’s biggest cities than any other UK airport. A staggering three million people will be flying through Heathrow this Christmas, with nearly half a million between Sunday 19 December and Friday 24 December alone.

Malcolm Robertson of Heathrow said: “Christmas is a really busy time for Heathrow as friends and family come together to enjoy the holidays. We hope the cupcakes and carols will add some Christmas cheer to people’s journeys and give arriving passengers a memorable welcome to the UK.”
