Star Alliance enhances online offers with new range of products

Book and purchase Circle Fares on the Internet - the only alliance offering multiple online fare products.
Star Alliance is the first airline alliance to sell a variety of fare products on the Internet. In addition to the Round the World fare, all Star Alliance Circle Fares can now be booked and purchased via the website www.staralliance.com. This allows customers to plan their journeys from the comfort of their own home, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Reservations can be made anywhere in the world and e-tickets are issued automatically. The booking engine is currently available in English and Japanese with additional languages to be added at a later stage.
“Nowadays, the Internet is an essential distribution channel for sales. Our alliance fare products offer a unique way of exploring the vast number of destinations served by our member airlines, but the complexity of the multiple airfares does not allow for easy automation. It is, therefore, increasingly important and appropriate that with Circle Fares we can offer online booking and ticketing for multiple fare products,” said Christopher Korenke, Star Alliance Vice President Commercial.
Star Alliance has three different Circle Fares on offer: Circle Asia, Circle North Asia and Circle Pacific. These fares are designed to facilitate travel between destinations across the Pacific Rim using various Star Alliance member carriers. The Circle Asia Fare is intended for travel between South-East Asia, North Asia and the South-West Pacific, while the Circle North Asia Fare is aimed at travel between Japan, Korea and mainland China (including Hong Kong and Macau). The Circle Pacific Fare spans a wider area, enabling customers to travel between Asia, Australia and the Pacific Coast of Canada and the USA. Customers select the destinations covered by the respective Circle Fare, creating a personalised circular itinerary. The fare is calculated according to total distance travelled and selected travel class (First, Business or Economy Class). Travel must originate and terminate in the same country. The online booking option for Circle Fares follows the successful launch of “Book & Fly” over a year ago. Book & Fly enables customers to plan, book and purchase Round the World tickets via the Star Alliance website, www.staralliance.com. In addition to English, the Japanese language option was added to Book & Fly earlier this year.
