Summer events at new Thinktank Science Garden

Summer events at new Thinktank Science Garden

Visitors of all ages can get bodies on with science this summer with an engaging programming of events and activities at the new Thinktank Science Garden in Birmingham, the first of its type in the UK and one of only a few in the world.

There will be free entry on 1 August to celebrate Playday, the national day for play, and guided walks around the Garden and Eastside area of Birmingham to discover some of the city’s hidden heritage.

As well as exploring the 42 fun zones and exhibits featured in the permanent interactive outdoor space, including a human-sized hamster wheel and logic defying square-wheel people wagon, visitors can also get involved in ‘science busking’ (hands-on experiments in public spaces), lab sessions, storytelling and art workshops at the main Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum.

Thinktank’s Director of Learning and Operations, Janine Eason, said: “After three years in development we are delighted that the new Thinktank Science Garden is open for visitors to enjoy. In addition to the specially commissioned permanent features, the summer events programme will bring science and engineering to life in a fresh and exciting way while offering a fantastic day out for all the family.”

The new Thinktank Science Garden is a major addition to the existing Museum and comes at an exciting time, after the Museum joined forces with Birmingham's Museums and Art Gallery last year to create the new Birmingham Museums Limited.

It has been supported by Biffa Award, Millennium Point Trust and a range of other charitable trusts and foundations including the Wellcome Trust, and is a key part of the larger Eastside City Park, the first major new city centre park in Birmingham for more than 100 years.
