TAP to expand its operations this winter

TAP will expand operations on 20 of its routes for the 2010-2011 winter season — a seven per cent increase over the same period last year.

The new flights will benefit customers travelling to intercontinental destinations as well those travelling within Europe, which represents an adjustment in the airline’s offerings to meet levels of demand.

In Europe, operations will increase by 8.2 % compared to last winter, with more flights to destinations like Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia, Paris, Lyon, London, Luxembourg, Copenhagen, Munich, Frankfurt, Geneva, Milan and Rome. Among these, flights to Geneva and Milan departing from Porto will double from seven to fourteen per week. Paris and London also benefit from more travel choices with seven new flights to the French capital and nine new flights to the British capital each week.

In the network’s intercontinental sector, additional weekly flights to the cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo (now with new service to Viracopos Airport) will increase its Brazilian market capacity by a total of 8.8 %. Africa will receive two new flights to Marrakech for a total of five, with continued service three times a week to Algiers. Both destinations were launched this year and have confirmed expectations of demand.

In the Portuguese market, TAP has decided to strengthen its Lisbon-Porto connection with the introduction of an additional eight flights, bringing the total number of weekly flights between the two cities to 71.

Worldwide, TAP operations for the 2010-2011 winter season will offer 955 weekly return flights to 65 destinations in 31 countries.

The new flight schedules will go into effect this winter, traditionally a period of low demand, with changes taking place in the coming months. During certain periods (Christmas, New Year’s, Easter and Carnival) operations will be expanded as needed. Other changes may also take place to accommodate possible variations in traffic flow across the TAP network.
